A tiger's roar can be heard for up to two miles (three kilometers) away.

Tigers are on the endangered species list. As recently as the 20th Century three of the eight subspecies of tigers became extinct. Their numbers have been reduced from the hundreds of thousands to approximately 2,500 due to hunting and poaching for trophies and Chinese medicine.
